By removing ranked matchmaking as an option for stacks and parties, hope is for a much smoother and less frustrating experience for solo players that get matched up with the groups. Gameplay[ edit ] Smite features many different game modes, with the largest being Conquest. All players begin at opposite sides of a map at their team’s ‘fountain’. That being said, the prior ranked system was not without its faults – leaving room for unscrupulous players to exploit various metrics to augment their performance. Valve decided to address communal concerns regarding such exploitation by revamping their re-calibration code for this season. For players committed to rising in rank, re-calibrating evokes an inexorable feeling of anxiety surrounding the uncertainty of outcome, an outcome which largely determines their Dota experience for the next six months.
As we can see, the factors comprising the re-calibration code for this season remove calibration credit for individual player performance in matches – derived from the variables mentioned above. Thus, ranked players are now subjected to an arbitrary system predicated upon the mismatched pairings it generates. Players that perform well despite lower pairings can look forward to tremendous reductions in MMR should they lose a calibration match under such circumstances.
The dire consequence, and subsequent misery of losing a calibration match, conjures a profound resentment for the obvious shortcomings of the new system in place.

Trying to play seriously in this mode is like going to a club and expecting to have a real conversation—maybe, one time in five, you’ll get what you want. Gone is the old stacking matchmaking rating MMR value, replaced entirely by a total of seven league tiers. Every tier has its own unique Rank Medal icon, proudly displayed on every ranked player’s profile. Within each tier, players will have to earn five stars in order to progress to the next league. Up until the Legend rank, both solo and party matchmaking will count towards a player’s progression. Players who wish to earn the Ancient and Divine medals, however, must grind it out in solo queue only.
In all cases, though, solo queue will have a bigger impact on progression. Should a player successfully go up in rank, their medal will change to reflect their progression.
